Deputy Fouad Makhzoumi and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri both emphasised support for President Joseph Aoun and called for national unity, as Israeli strikes continue in southern Lebanon.
Makhzoumi said after meeting Aoun that he backs the president's position and remains committed to a framework agreement restricting weapons to the army, while prioritising economic and financial reform and state-building.
Berri told An-Nahar that he will not break ties with Aoun, stressing that the current period requires unified efforts to counter Israeli aggression and challenges.
Berri cited seven rounds of negotiations with Israel held from Washington to Rome, noting that civilians in the South continue to face attacks and destruction. Israeli strikes, artillery shelling and demolitions of civilian buildings persist in southern villages and towns.
Lebanon's health ministry reports that Israeli attacks have killed at least 8,920 people since hostilities began in October 2023. Violence has decreased since a U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding in June and a later framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon that month, though strikes continue.
