Beirut Marathon and Barmana municipality organized a running festival on Sunday with 2,000 participants from across Lebanon.
Barmana held the Barmana Running Festival on Sunday, organized by the Beirut Marathon association in partnership with Barmana municipality and under the supervision of the Lebanese Athletics Federation. The event drew 2,000 runners from across Lebanon to the mountain town, where they ran through its heritage streets and created an enthusiastic atmosphere.
Barmana's mayor Pierre al-Achkar and deputy mayor Walid Razak attended, alongside Beirut Marathon association president Mai al-Khalil, retired General Hassan Rostom as vice president, and Nemtallah Bijani, deputy president of the Lebanese Athletics Federation. The association's administrative board members also participated, including secretary Hassan Mohieddin, treasurer Ghassem Hajjar, public relations director Bashir al-Saqa, executive director Samer Makarem, and operations director Francoise Neama.
Al-Achkar, Razak, Bijani, al-Khalil and Rostom started the three race categories. Medal ceremonies and cash prizes were awarded to winners at the finish line, with participation medals distributed to all runners.
Al-Achkar said the festival was a promotional event for Barmana, highlighting the town across geographic, tourism, economic and environmental dimensions. He commended Beirut Marathon and its president al-Khalil for their cooperation.
Al-Khalil described the day as one of Barmana's sporting celebrations, noting that participants enjoyed the town's natural beauty and heritage streets and expressed plans to return regularly.
