Security forces detonated a 160mm mortar shell discovered near the Spinneys area in Tripoli after experts examined the device.

An explosion was heard across Tripoli after military experts safely detonated the mortar round in accordance with standard procedures.

The shell, measuring 160mm in calibre, was found in the vicinity of the Spinneys neighbourhood. Security agencies responded to the discovery and dispatched specialist personnel to the location.

A military expert from the Internal Security Forces Criminal Investigation Division attended the scene, along with traffic police and a unit from Bab al-Raml. The shell was examined and prepared for controlled detonation at the site.

Residents in the area were asked not to be alarmed by the explosion, which resulted from the disposal operation.
