Education Minister Rima Karami toured Burj Qalaouiye in Nabatiye district, citing exceptional efforts by educators but acknowledging difficulties in securing teaching materials and paying outstanding teacher salaries.
Rima Karami, the minister of education and higher learning, visited the southern town of Burj Qalaouiye in Bint Jbeil district to assess conditions in schools and educational institutions across the region. She emphasised the need to avoid rushing into new teacher contracts without securing the required budget allocations.
Karami said that new employment agreements require approval from the civil service council and the finance ministry, along with proof that the necessary funds are available. She noted that some teachers are currently working while others who taught previously have not yet received their outstanding payments.
The minister acknowledged a likely delay in providing all teaching materials to students, describing the continuation of the educational process under current conditions as resembling a miracle. She praised the exceptional efforts of educators nationwide, saying no educational workers elsewhere operate under such circumstances.
Karami told educators in the south that while the school year may not start perfectly and will be difficult, the ministry aims to work with them to restore normal operations and return children to classrooms. She committed to ensuring a school seat for every child in the south.
