Israeli artillery struck multiple towns across the southern border overnight and Sunday, while Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri rejected proposals for a buffer zone and insisted on a national approach to the conflict.
Israeli forces shelled the border towns of Houla, al-Mansouri and Bouyout al-Siyyed overnight into Monday. Sunday night strikes hit Kfar Remman, al-Mansouri, Zawtar al-Sharqiyeh, Mayfadoun and Arnoun. Israeli forces also detonated houses in Arnoun and Yohmor.
Speaking on the anniversary of the disappearance of Imam Musa al-Sadr and his companions, Berri said the war with Israel requires a national approach free of sectarian calculations. He warned: do not waste Lebanon in internal wars.
Berri stated that Israel does not seek Hezbollah or the Amal movement but rather sectarian strife. The war demands a national approach removed from sectarian or denominational considerations.
The Parliament Speaker emphasised that the south is an integral part of Lebanon and that reconstruction is the state's responsibility. He described southern geography as not experimental zones.
Berri rejected any buffer zone or security belt in the south and refused to surrender or suspend Lebanon's right to prosecute Israel for crimes of genocide.
On the framework agreement, Berri said the position remains unchanged and warned against negotiations with Israel under fire. He questioned the results of seven rounds of talks.
Berri reaffirmed commitment to the Taif Agreement and the need to implement its provisions. He rejected any call for federalism or partition as incompatible with Taif and described such proposals as a reckless gamble threatening Lebanon's peace and unity.
Berri also voiced support for Arab efforts, particularly Pakistani initiatives, to bring security and stability to Gulf states and the region.
