Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said the release of Lebanese captive Malek Ghazi by Israel represents progress toward resolving the broader captives file, and pledged to continue working for the freedom of all detainees.
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said Thursday that the safe return of any released Lebanese citizen constitutes a significant step toward resolving the captives issue. The statement came after Israel released Lebanese captive Malek Ghazi.
Salam extended gratitude to the U.S. administration and specifically to U.S. Ambassador Michel Issa for their efforts in securing the release.
The Prime Minister vowed that Lebanese authorities will continue working until the release of all Lebanese captives, the disclosure of the fate of the missing, and the achievement of complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory.
Salam acknowledged the difficulty of the negotiation process but said the government would mobilize all necessary efforts to protect Lebanon's rights and the interests of the Lebanese people, particularly those in the South. He stressed the importance of their safe and dignified return to their homes and villages, and the restoration of full state sovereignty over Lebanese territory.
