Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that the elimination of Hamas and Hezbollah would follow if Iran's government is defeated, and warned of new threats in the region.
Netanyahu told Channel 14 that if Iran's regime falls, the path to eliminating Hamas and Hezbollah would be clear. He said Israel still has unfinished business in what he called the War of Redemption, which began with the October 7, 2023 attack by Hamas.
Netanyahu pointed to dangers beyond Iranian-backed organizations, saying there are missions to complete and new threats to address. He also criticized Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, saying the Turkish leader does not like Israel or him.
Ahead of an October 27 election, Netanyahu warned that if his opponents form a government, they would withdraw Israeli forces from security zones established in Gaza, Syria and Lebanon. A government led by Yashar Party leader Gadi Eisenkot would abandon those territories and establish a Palestinian state, he said.
The Israeli military, separately, stated that its war is not against Lebanon but against Hezbollah.
