Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israeli forces have cleared the Ali al-Taher ridge in southern Lebanon, eliminating Hezbollah positions he said were positioned to threaten northern Israeli settlements and potentially invade the Galilee.
Netanyahu declared Thursday night that the Ali al-Taher ridge in southern Lebanon no longer poses a threat to Israel following an Israeli military operation in the area.
The ridge had been developed by Hezbollah as an extension of the Beaufort position and was used to threaten the northern Israeli settlements of Kiryat Shmona and Metula, Netanyahu said. He characterized it as part of Hezbollah's plans to potentially invade the Galilee.
Israeli forces seized weapons and computers from the position during the operation and eliminated numerous Hezbollah fighters, according to Netanyahu.
Netanyahu said he had instructed the Israeli Defence Force to clear the ridge and praised the Chief of Staff, the Northern Command commander and Israeli soldiers for the operation.
