The government's intellectual property office recorded 7,084 new trademark registrations and 144 patents in the first seven months of 2026, signalling continued business activity despite the country's economic challenges.
The Intellectual Property Directorate at the Ministry of Economy and Trade released figures showing sustained commercial, industrial and trading activity. Advertising and business management services led registrations with 931 trademarks, followed by coffee, tea and cocoa with 675, and food and beverage services with 649.
Education, training and entertainment accounted for 448 trademark registrations, while jewellery and textiles registered 387. The 144 patents approved over the seven-month period averaged approximately 20 per month.
The General Director of Economy and Trade, Dr. Mohammed Abu Haidar, said the figures demonstrated that entrepreneurs, businesses and inventors continue to innovate, invest and launch new products while seeking to protect their intellectual property in Lebanon.
Abu Haidar stated that the Ministry of Economy and Trade is working to streamline procedures and develop digital services at the intellectual property office to reduce time and costs for citizens, business owners and inventors.
The ministry will launch fully computerised services for the intellectual property office within the coming two months, with several stages incorporating artificial intelligence technologies. The initiative aims to simplify procedures, accelerate processing of applications and make intellectual property protection faster, easier and more efficient.
