Former Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat said U.S. Ambassador Michel Issa misunderstood his stance on the U.S.-sponsored framework agreement with Israel, reiterating his rejection of it.
Walid Jumblat, former leader of the Progressive Socialist Party, said on social media that U.S. Ambassador Michel Issa had not read his comments on what he called the trilateral framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel. Jumblat said Issa's various cultural and political activities had prevented him from reviewing the position.
Jumblat said he rejects the framework agreement and believes it should be replaced by the armistice agreement specified in the Taef accord and UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
Issa had told reporters after meeting with Sheikh Sami Abi Al-Muna, spiritual head of the Druze community in Lebanon, that Jumblat's position changes frequently. The ambassador said he planned to communicate with Jumblat soon to clarify his current stance.
Issa said he intends to meet with Jumblat as part of his consultations with various Lebanese parties.
