MP Ali Fayyad of Hezbollah's Loyalty to Resistance bloc accused the Americans of pressing Lebanese authorities to confront the armed group, warning this could drag the country into civil strife.
Fayyad said on Monday that the United States is using pressure on the Lebanese government to tighten restrictions on Hezbollah and its institutions, potentially forcing a confrontation between the group and state security forces.
He argued that internal conflict between the resistance and the army would serve Israeli interests while harming Lebanon, and said the government's negotiating approach has failed to secure gains for Lebanese citizens.
Fayyad characterized American actions as cover for Israeli violations in southern Lebanon, where he said the population faces displacement and destruction of villages.
He called on authorities to abandon their current approach, suspend ongoing negotiations, declare a framework agreement worthless, and reverse decisions affecting the resistance. He said these steps would help build unified Lebanese opposition to what he characterized as Israeli aggression.
