The Beirut customs enforcement division has seized hundreds of pharmaceutical and cosmetic products, including cancer treatments, stored in an unauthorized warehouse for illegal distribution.
The Land Enforcement Division of Beirut Customs seized large quantities of medicines and medical and cosmetic preparations from a warehouse in the city that were being stored for sale outside legal channels, the Directorate General of Customs announced.
The seizure is part of ongoing efforts to combat smuggling and protect public health and the economy, the customs authority said.
The confiscated items included hundreds of products, among them specialist cancer medications, blood disorder treatments, chronic disease therapies, biological medicines and precision medical preparations, as well as cosmetic products including botox and fillers.
The medicines and products were seized and the violators detained under the supervision of the competent courts.
The Directorate General of Customs said it is pursuing parallel investigations to trace the origin and distribution networks of the seized items, identify their sources and determine which entities were involved in their supply and distribution.
Customs is also verifying whether any of the seized quantities had already been distributed and identifying any medical centres or facilities that may have received or used them.
