Deputy Jamil al-Sayyid criticized reliance on foreign pressure to enforce the Israel ceasefire agreement, questioning why Lebanon appeals to countries with limited influence on Israel when the American guarantee has not been activated.
MP Jamil al-Sayyid said the government appeals to the world through visiting foreign officials and UN representatives to pressure Israel into halting attacks and implementing the framework agreement. President Joseph Aoun visited the Vatican and met Italy's prime minister in the past two days, appealing from there for international pressure on Israel to comply with the accord.
Al-Sayyid asked why Lebanon seeks help from nations with little influence on Israel after making concessions in direct negotiations and the framework agreement, and after the president's visit to the White House and meeting with Trump. He said the world's most powerful country and greatest influence on Israel, under Trump, has not yet exercised its guarantee to enforce an agreement signed on American soil.
Al-Sayyid concluded by questioning whether the guarantee described to the Lebanese public was a Lebanese invention to justify those concessions with no basis in America.
