The party is "in a phase of de-escalation since the Islamabad agreement", the sources said, and they contend Israel is attempting to break this phase through the Ain al-Tineh issue to gain electoral advantage.
Pressure to deploy the army to Ain al-Tineh carries risks and could open the door to future Israeli demands for entry to verify the area is free of party members, according to the sources.
No clear proposal exists regarding Ain al-Tineh, the sources said. Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri guarantees the containment of weapons south of the Litani River in exchange for Israeli withdrawal, while the area to the north falls under national security strategy.
