Agriculture Minister Dr. Nizar Hani held a series of meetings to discuss supporting farmers, developing agricultural infrastructure, and promoting exports to foreign markets.
The meetings focused on several issues including supporting farmer resilience, developing post-harvest infrastructure, modernizing beekeeping, and expanding export marketing opportunities for Lebanese agricultural products.
Minister Hani followed up on matters related to Shebaa, listened from farmers about their needs and challenges in border areas, and discussed ways to strengthen their ability to continue production.
The meetings also addressed issues of housing cooperatives and mutual aid funds alongside development and social files, emphasizing the importance of cooperative work in supporting local communities and facing economic and social challenges.
The Minister prioritized developing agricultural infrastructure for the post-harvest stage, particularly establishing cooling centers, sorting facilities, packaging and canning operations, as a key link in agricultural value chains.
The Ministry affirmed that these facilities help reduce losses and waste, preserve crop quality, extend storage and marketing periods, and increase added value in local and foreign markets.
Minister Hani discussed adopting modern techniques in beekeeping and apiary management to improve production efficiency and honey quality, stressing the economic, agricultural and environmental importance of this sector.
Hani held a video call with a Qatari company that expressed interest in Lebanese crops and agricultural products, discussing with it opportunities for cooperation and developing new commercial channels to bring more Lebanese production to the Qatari market.
The Agriculture Ministry affirmed that its doors will remain open to farmers, municipalities, cooperatives and the private sector, and that ongoing meetings form part of an approach based on listening to actual needs and linking them to practical solutions, investments and partnerships.
