The Ministry of Public Works and Transport announced progress on work at the damaged Qaqaia Bridge, with the site now moving to the construction phase of a temporary crossing to restore traffic across this vital point in southern Lebanon.
Field teams and machinery belonging to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport are currently installing the first row of panels at the Qaqaia Bridge, according to a ministry statement. This will be followed by installation of a second row of panels, then completion of the filling and preparation work necessary to build the road above the crossing and open it to traffic.
The temporary crossing aims to restore traffic across this vital point over the Litani River, allowing citizens to use the route directly instead of relying on alternative roads during the completion of repairs needed for the damaged bridge.
The Qaqaia Bridge forms an important connection between the banks of the Litani River and a number of districts, and is one of the key passages linking Nabatieh district to Bint Jbeil district. Any interruption at this point forces citizens to use alternative routes and increases the time and distances required for travel.
The multiple bridges over the Litani River hold special importance in the southern road network, given their role in ensuring the movement of residents and vehicles and the delivery of services between villages and towns, in addition to enabling emergency and rescue teams to reach areas.
The Qaqaia Bridge work is part of a programme being carried out by the ministry to address damage to the road and bridge network in the south resulting from recent military developments. The Ministry of Public Works and Transport continues to monitor the progress of the work until completion as part of its efforts to rehabilitate damaged facilities and restore connectivity across the road network in various areas.
